Your man in Phuket

Your man in Phuket

May I present you; Jamie Monk, fellow weather blogger (of those there are only two as far as I know in Thailand, Jamie and me), fellow diver (he owns and runs Sunrise divers in Karon) and he's been the same amount of years in Thailand as me, he may have arrived a few days before me, we are both married to a Thai woman (a different one!) and we both have two kids in the same age bracket.

Right now I am in Phuket for a PADI IE and it turns out that the location is more or less directly next to Jamie's dive center. Having missed each other during a few earlier visits to Phuket, this was the right time to visit him and have a nice cold one.
It was good meeting him at last, eye to eye and the picture above sees us happily shaking hands on the unexpected occasion.

If you're interested in finding out about the Real Phuket and not just about Patong and it's nightlife, Jamie's Phuket blog is the right place to find this sort of information. For all news about Phuket's weather all year round, Jamie's Phuket weather blog is the 'sister' blog to my Samui info and weather blog.

Looking forward to a few more cold ones together, Jamie!

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 17th October, 2010

Today's weather;

It's been a while but Samui woke up under a blue sky this morning with a current temp at 7am of 26.2C

Yesterday saw a lovely day, after a start of the day with a light cloud cover, a blue sky emerged for the rest of the day once the sun started to beam and it was nice and warm and dry all day long. Max temp reached 33.3C

During one of my runs I was attacked by a dog and bitten, just an artificial scratch but funnily enough all of a sudden the dog had no owner and the people whose house he seemed to belong to didn't want to have anything to do with a financial compensation for my set of 5 rabies shots at 450,-THB per pop.

Please vote in my poll which I started yesterday, the post it relates can be found here and deal with my up and coming travels and if you're interested in finding out about destinations outside of Samui. So far 17 people voted and the tendency is to write about both destinations, where I will be at the time being and give an update about Samui. You still got another 7 days to vote.
The place where you can find the vote is on the left top of this blog.

My up and coming travels

My up and coming travels

Soon I will start travelling around Thailand as part of my work as a PADI Course Director in order to conduct PADI IDC in various locations.
This and next month Koh Lanta and Kao Lak are on the schedule and in early January I will travel to the Philippines and Koh Phangan again.

My question to my readers is if you're interested at all in updates from those locations outside of Koh Samui? I created a poll at the left top of my blog page and would love to see your answers and feel free to answer in form of comments in this post.

An option that I'm considering is to have a local update followed by the daily Samui update, since I will be in touch with home on a daily base and can still give fairly accurate local Samui weather information.

Looking forward hearing from you all!

10th March, 2010

Today's weather;

It's overcast time this morning but I've got a hunch feeling that there will be no rain today. Current temp at 7am is 29C.

The draught is becoming more and more of a problem. All major hotels on Samui (and smaller ones as well) have water trucks delivering water each day. Now my parents in law, just a few hundred meters down the road don't have any clear water from their well anymore and come to us for a shower. So far our well never run dry, I wonder how we will do this year.

There's a small reason to celebrate today since this is 1500th post on this blog!

Yesterday saw clear skies and a max temp of 31.3C.

Blog rolls and links

Blog rolls and links

As you may have noticed, my blog rolls have disappeared from my main page since a few days and I have them now moved to a new feature that Blogger, my blogging forum, offers; pages.

You can have a look at my brand new 'Blog Roll and Links' page by clicking on the link. The main link will be on the top left of my blog pages, so always easy to find.

Part of the reason I've changed this has been done to cut down the number of outbound links on the front page of my Samui Info and Weather blog. Although I miss the updated live bits that I could display on the front page, I will have a look at how this progresses and develops but for now I'm happy with my new page and shortly a few more pages will follow.

3 years of blogging and going strong!

3 years of blogging and going strong!

Can't believe it myself but it's true, just a tad bit over three years ago saw my first post on this blog on 16th February 2007; a welcoming message with a weather report.

The 18th February 2007 saw my first stand alone weather update!

My blog has changed quite a bit since my first attempts of blogging and a lot of visitors have come and gone since. Currently an average amount of 100 to 150 visitors per month visit this blog and if there's some rubbernecking to do like the 7-11 fire due to a car crashing into said 7-11 in Bang Rak in 2008 or the plane crash at Samui airport in 2008, visitors easily reach 600 to 800 or more per day.

It's been good and I still enjoy doing this, I actually have currently 4 blogs up and running and it may not be the end! A few more ideas for blogging are bubbling and just need to hatch. Have you already checked out my dive blog, my Samui hotel recommendation blog and my Thailand hotel recommendation blog?

All written from a personal perspective and/or personal experience with lots of good tips about either diving on and around Samui or your hotel choice on Samui and around Thailand.

Thanks for sticking around, I know there are some steady readers out there and welcome to all new readers and a big hello to all my fellow Thai and international bloggers that I met in the comfort of my living room sitting behind my keyboard! You guys rock!

Two funny sites, a quiz and a list of Thai commercials

Two funny sites, a quiz and a list of Thai commercials

Here are two very funny sites that may entertain you for a bit, the first is a quiz and can you; Tell The Difference Between a Thai Lady and a Thai Ladyboy?

The next link is a list of; 11 of the craziest Thai TV commercials this decade

This is a sample and it's possibly the funniest and/or most tasteless Thai commercial, pending on where you draw the line, I think it's hilarious.

Just something different for a change, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Just for the record, I scored 7/10, which is still withing safety margins, considering I thought two ladies to be ladyboys.

Today's weather;

There's overcast this morning but the sun is trying to break through. Current temp at 7 am is 25C.

Yesterday was warm and sunny with a max temp of 32.5C. Last night around 10 pm we had the seemingly routine rain fall.

Yesterday I installed two new gadgets, a storm tracker and a gadget that shows the current moon phase. Both can be found at the bottom of this page.

The year 2007

It's almost over; 2007 and we're getting ready for the new year; 2008.

Just a quick few moments to reflect on 2007.

It's the year that I started this weather blog on 16th February and to my own surprise, it seems a lot more successful than I had ever imagined or expected.

The highlight being late October and early November when a lot of 'rubbernecking' went on about the conditions on Samui, which by the way, where not very good, loads of rain and some parts of Samui were declared a disaster zone. Thanks for your interest by the way, I received emails on a daily base with questions about the situation.

That month alone I had over 7.000 clicks on my blog! Thanks to you all out there! Now it's back to a 'mere' 3.700 clicks during December, which again, isn't that bad at all.
Thanks again to you guys, out there in Taiwan, Russia, US of A, UK, Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, China, India, South Africa, Sweden, Norway and in the Gulf! Thanks for checking in once in a while!

Very good news towards the end of the year was that my friend Crispin got out of jail after almost a year and a half and all his charges have been dropped! Good to know you're a free man again Crispin, you deserve it!

A few folks I'd like to point out;

My friend Dave in Okinawa who has his own Japan/dive blog, who was an inspiration to me for starting my blog.

Jamie in Phuket, who runs a Phuket weather blog who was also inspirational and who also runs a very informative Phuket blog. I really wish there were more weather blogs on various parts of Thailand, if you know about any, please let me know!

Monique, another Dutchie here on Samui, who has just the most amazing photo blog with many pix about Samui.

My other blogs, the dive blog and my Samui hotel recommendations blog.

Of course, you, the readers of my blog!

If you all appreciate my blog, keep it alive, don't forget the donation button or to click on my advertisements, it keeps my blog boat floating and please keep supporting the above mentioned blogs!

All the best for the New Year to you all.

Cha cha cha changes and a new blog

Recently some changes have occurred on my blog and a new blog has seen the light.

Big news for me is the creation of a new blog, Camille's Samui hotel recommendations, a blog with hotels I recommend including the reasons why I like these hotels or resorts. More to follow on this shortly.

The last couple of days I've also added a new weather site; Accu weather. This seems to be a very good weather forecaster.

I've added my Facebook profile, so anybody visiting here who has a Facebook account and is desperate for a friend...............

There are also a load of new blog buttons, on some of them you can click and vote for my blog, if you got enough spare time at your hands, give it a go.

Last month I added a button for Nomad Insurance, who offer travel insurance.

Last but not least, if you like this blog and you find it useful, please make a small donation. Everything is welcome and appreciated!

Hope you enjoy the current changes, I'm sure there's more to come in the future and I most certainly hope to see you coming back here.

Stay updated

Staying updated about my blog is now a lot easier!

Today I installed a lot of buttons, on the bottom left side of the page that you are viewing.
If you like to stay updated on my new posts, it now very easy to receive all updates, once pr day, by email.

As an example, you can click on one of these buttons; Subscribe to Camille's Samui Weather and there will appear prompts, which you have to follow. Choose the medium that you like to get updates from and that's pretty much it.

It's also highly appreciated if you click on the "Fave this Blog Technorati" button, especially if you have a blog of your own!

Thanks and please leave comments!
