Today's weather;

How about an almost perfect blue sky for early starters? Current temp at 7 am is 26.6C.

Yesterday was nothing short but sunny and hot! Max temp reached 34.7C.

Today we're completing the August PADI IDC and tomorrow I'll be off to Koh Tao for two nights for a PADI IE.

Today's weather;

A thin cloud layer is dominating most of the sky but looks likely to be burnt away once the sun heats up. Current temp at 7 am is 27.2C.

Yesterday was once more a warm and sunny day! Max temp reached 34.2C.

Today's weather;

Another sunny day seems to be in the making, lots of blue with a thin cloud layer most likely burnt away rather quickly. Current temp at 7 am is 26.8C.

Yesterday was another nice and sunny day. Max temp reached 34.7C.

There's lots of blue patches and sunshine but also a good amount of clouds, but it looks like it will become another very sunny and hot day. Current temp at 7 am is 27.1C.

Follow up on the Bang Rak 7-11 crash

Follow up on the Bang Rak 7-11 crash

It's been just 4 days now since the crash at the 7-11 in Bang Rak.

The burned out car has been towed away after two days and every day saw frantic activity to get the electricity and such restored.

This picture clearly shows two burned out motor bike frames in front of the completely demolished 7-11, with a 3rd bike carcass not so clearly recognisable in the back, just behind the second, middle bike.

It also turned out that there was a severely injured person after all, a Thai lady who happened to be outside of 7-11 when the car hit the pole. She ended up under the car and has burn wounds all over her body from the ignited gasoline.

She kept her head together when she was under the car and asked a 7-11 worker to bring her to the nearest hospital on the back of a bike. There's she being treated right now and although she seems to be out of life danger, she's still severely injured. This Friday there will be a fund raiser at the Admiral Lord Nelson pub in Bang Rak for her.

The driver has been arrested by the police and it seems that he was just 18 and it was the first day that he had his brand new car!

Today's weather;

This morning saw a lovely blue sky with some minor cloud formations in it. Current temp at 7am is 25C.

Yesterday started out as usual, with fairly heavy overcast. By 10 am however, the sun had burned all clouds away and it was sunny and very warm for the rest of the day with a max temp of 34.5C.

Government Hospital in Nathon

Government Hospital in Nathon

In my series about hospitals on Samui, it's time to visit the Government hospital in Nathon.
For most tourists, this will remain a closed book, but a lot expats may be familiar with this hospital.

It's located at the 'outskirt' of Nathon, at the traffic lights where the Immigration office is located, it's on the same road as the Immigration office but at the very end of this road, about one kilometre down this road, around the corner to the right.

It's an interesting place, there are wards with up to 40 patients in it and their relatives/families who stay next to their bedside. People who are about to die lie next to slightly injured or ill people.

However, there also private rooms.

There's also a wing with private rooms for Monks, which are used for everybody, until a Monk needs to be hospitalised.

All in all, for a Westerner not very common sights.

The staff is very very good and friendly though and 'unfortunately' the surgeons are some of the best in Thailand when it comes down to mending motorbike accident victims, since Samui supposedly has one of the highest accident rates in Thailand.

Both of our children have been born here and we were very happy with the way the births were handled by the doctor and the staff. There's an interesting discussion going on about giving birth on Samui at the Samui forum of Thai Visa. All hospitals on Samui are being discussed as well, interesting if it peaks your interest! You need to sign up first for the Forum though.
