Dinner at Kukup (Day 1)

Continue from here...

The dinner started prepare since 5pm. The boss of the chalet also helping to prepare....because there are 17 of us and it's about 15 of visitors from the second chalet. His preparation are for 2 groups of peoples.



The boss helping to grilled the chicken wings. They use the charcoal to grill most of the seafoods. You can easily see this within Johor Bahru, in Malay we called it : Ikan Bakar.

Once it's ready, peoples automatically come to it. Because it's smells good!

Every chalet having their dinner at almost same time! Perfect timing!

If the chalet you rented without proper space in front of the house, then you need to cross the alley and enjoy the outdoor dinner! Hmm.....that's another type of enjoyment. But just pray hard that's no rain!

Dinner serve around 7:30pm.

Night activities after dinner :-
* Have a beer in hand and chat among friends.
* Mahjong - very common. And seems like very popular night activity.
* Fishing - you can rent the fishing gear from the shop around here. I saw many peoples fishing during night time....
* Karaoke - singing session. You can hear from almost every chalet.
* Fire Cracker ?! Yes, some of them keep on burning it like never burn before in their life! :)

Big can of beer? No....it's a cooling box.

After midnight, I had a short walk around this area. And spotted a group of peoples fishing, just have a chat with them and suddenly one of them caught a big fish!

Channel Catfish - more than 1 KG

And understand from them, they can catch about 6-7 catfish in one night.
The tide continue goes high for the night. It was dry while we reached here.....when it's around 11pm, the whole area full of water......

This is a Sleepless Village. Every chalet having their party even already 1:30am in the morning! You still hear Karaoke singing everywhere.....as same as the Mahjong sound.....

The night end with full of joyful moments!

Kukup Fishing Village Trip 15th & 16th November 2008

We reached Kukup Fishing Village (N1°19.512' E103°26.511') in the evening about 5pm. After check-in & settle everything at the chalet, the time was about 6pm.

I feel this is another Tourist Attraction of Johor and basically, the chalets were built by the local villages....another income for them beside their main income from the fishes they sell.
The life over here are quite simple, some in business like Seafood Restaurant, Souvenir Shop, Local foods shop & etc around the town area. Some built their Kelong for fishing. And some survive with their chalets...

I love the Nature over here! I took a short time to explore around the village before our dinner. Beside the scenic view of surrounding, I discovered some interesting small species here......

Let me start from the Chalet (N1°19.219' E103°26.665') we stayed :-
We need to walk about 500-700 meter from the main road to the chalet. (On the left side of the main road)
The entrance actually is from the back door, you will notice there's a pathway on the left of the door that link to the second chalet which belong to the same owner.

The kitchen was clean and equipped with gas. The both sides of the kitchen are 4 washrooms, enough for big group of visitors.

There are 4 rooms with air-con. 1 Double decker and many mattress.

The living hall is big enough to occupy more than 20 persons.....

Type of Chalets at Kukup Fishing Village :-
Most of the design similar to the village house. All of them were built on the coast, yes! On the water. That's why it has another name called : 'Water House'.

While I walked on the alley, I noticed there are many motorcycle & bicycle on the alley for transport purposes.


The above picture was my favorite spot within alley. I just can't explain why? Just like it very much! Maybe because of the bend....it's actually almost the end of the alley.

We (me and Jerry) continued explore towards the town area....

Every shop around here were packed of peoples!

After passing by the shops area, we saw the 'First Fishing Village' of Kukup (on the right if you are from Pontian). This is the place where Kukup village started!

Visitor Information Centre of Kukup. Closed for the day....

Then we reached the Carpark where we park our car. They called : "Udang" (prawn) Parking (N1°19.581' E103°26.706'). This area is secure & safety. The parking fee is MYR6.00 per day - Include of unlimited time of transport from the parking to town area. It's quite a distance from the parking to the Jetty if by walk.
I am satisfied with their services.

The time was 7pm. We have to go back and ready for dinner.
While on the way, I saw this unique old house...

And this simple location map around this chalet area....

The Magic Toy stall was ready to start the business....

According to the info I got, the crime rate here is very low.....
And the peoples here only marry between the villages, that's mean no outsider. It grow towards a big family among them, and it's also an issue to the society.....

Lien Hoe Complex on Fire! Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru

Lien Hoe Complex (N1°29.507' E103°46.132') located at Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru.
When I reached there (2245hrs), the fire already started from the middle of the top floor of the complex. And it's spread very fast to both side......(The South wing which is facing Jalan Sutera 3)
As you can visualize the situation from the photos below.......

Then spread to the right.....

And left....

Fire Brigade arrived.....the Sky Lift in action!

After about 15 minutes, we heard a huge explosion from the top and the fire spread rapidly to the right!

The photo above was the second explosion!

The Fireman surround only watching the flame and can't do anything on it. I believe there's no casualty in this incident.

The shops below also became the victims of the fire because of all the debris drop from the top floor. Peoples around the area are busy taking pictures of the building!



The Police (with machine gun?!) only arrived about 30 minutes later......some said he gotta take care of the Money Changer Stall beside the building carefully! Haha!

After about one hour 30 minutes burning, it's start to slow down (The time was 0030hrs). I believe it's burn everything on the top floor and left nothing behind!

At last, we saw this 'Penang Famous Rojak' uncle and reminds us......we are hungry!! Haha!

Firefly at Kota Tinggi, Johor.

This is one of the Tourist Attraction at Kota Tinggi Town.
It's located at the Johor River bank after the bridge. Once you pass the bridge of K.Tinggi, turn right and find your way to the riverbank (N1°43.588' E103°53.992'). You will notice the Jetty looks like the picture below.....

If my memory serve me right, the boat ride is 45 minutes (after 8pm) and MYR15.00 per person (I forgot the fare for children, sorry). It's about 5-10 minutes from the Jetty to the Firefly area. The boatman also is your tour guide. He will explain everything about the Firefly and also the rules & regulation.

I can't provide the pictures about the Firefly because of my poor photography skill....Apologies....

While on the way back, the boatman will stop at one of the tree which is home of the OWL. Before the boat reach the Jetty while on the way back, he will make an u-turn under the Kota Tinggi Bridge and surprise you with FULL of Swallow bird nest! Yes, it's all under the bridge.
Then you will end the journey of the boat ride.

The Rules :-
1) Do not catch the Firefly (You can temporary catch it, but have to let it go before the boat reach the jetty)
2) Do not use your camera 'Flash' (because you will "kill" the firefly)

During the Johor Flood on 2006, the boat owner had volunteery make use of his boats for Rescue purpose. Kudo's to the Boss!!

Riverside Restaurant, Kota Tinggi, Johor

After the Mount Panti hiking, all of us were hunger for foods!!
Not waste our time, we headed to this Riverside Seafood Restaurant (N1°43.563' E103°54.720') at Kota Tinggi for our lunch.
The Restaurant located along the Kota Tinggi bypass expressway.

On the signage, the restaurant also provided boat trip for the Firefly watching.
Foods are ordered by our leader, and we only wait.....most of us finish '2' cans of '100 Plus' before the foods serve.

The dishes of our lunch were :-
1) Fish Head Soup
2) Wild boar cooked with ginger
3) Hot plate Tou-fu
4) Vege cooked with Balacan
5) Omelette

All I can say......the Fish Head Soup was Superb!!!
You got to try it if you happen to be here. Good recommendation from our leader. Others are above average.

My apologies for not taking any photos, because I was too hungary!

The total the damage : MYR25.00 per adult. Children - Free!
I rated : 4/5 (Especially the soup)
