Walking Directions To Ortigas Buildings From MRT Shaw Station

This article shows you the walking directions from MRT Shaw Station to the important institutions and buildings located to the south-west part of Ortigas Center. Here's how to get to any of these buildings from MRT Shaw Station:

MRT Shaw Station is big. If you get out via wrong exit, you'll get to the wrong side. And it's long before you get to right directions because you need to wait for pedestrian green signals, it's a long wait because this is a crossing of two busy main thoroughfares. So, if you want to get to your destination real quick, follow this: If you get off the train from Taft Station, use the escalator located towards the front of the train. If the train you're riding comes from North Station, the escalator to take is the one near to the rear of the train. From the turnstiles (exit machines), go right. That's the side going to Ortigas Center south-west area.

Shaw Station is connected to Shangri-La Plaza Mall, just go straight and enter the mall at the end of the walkway. Crossing Department Store is inside Shangri-La Plaza. Just go down to the lobby, take the hallway that goes south east and walk past National Bookstore. Crossing Department Store is to the other end of the mall.

Going to SM Mega Mall Building B, where Cyberzone is situated at fourth level, take the stairs to the left of MRT walkway. In the ground, just walk and cross Internal Avenue (you'll see the road sign) until you get to the open parking space that leads to the entrance of SM Mega Mall B.

From the foot of the stairs, go right at the corner of Shangri-La Plaza building. Walk along the edge of the mall past main entrance until you see the signage of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel to the left of Internal Avenue. Use the pedestrian lane to get to the side entrance of the hotel down the slope. The St. Francis Shangri-La Place also known as The St. Francis Shangri-La Towers 1 & 2 is situated next to Shangri-La Plaza Mall along Internal Avenue. Just walk past the sign of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel and towards the end of Internal Avenue until you get to the tall twin tower skyscraper which is exactly situated at the corner of Internal Avenue and Saint Francis Street. That's St. Francis Shangrila-la Place.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church is just across St. Francis Street opposite the corner of Internal Avenue. Now, if you go right from Internal Avenue corner St. Francis Street, you get to Shaw Boulevard where Citiland Shaw Tower stands next to St. Francis Shangri-La Place. The entrance of Lourdes School of Mandaluyohg is just across St. Francis Shangri-La Place.

If you go left on St. Francis Street from Internal Avenue, you'll see San Miguel Properties Centre building from the distance, situated to the right of St. Francis Street. To go there, you need to cross St. Francis Street first from the corner of Internal Avenue. Walk along St. Francis, cross Lourdes Drive, to get to the building. The Alegro is situated right at the corner of Lourdes Drive and St. Francis Street, just before the San Miguel Porperties Centre building. Richmonde Hotel is situated to the other end of Lourdes Drive. Just walk along Lourdes Drive up to San Miguel Avenue. Richmonde Hotel is across San Miguel Avenue, to the other corner. Medico is opposite Richmonde Hotel to the left cornner. And Medical Plaza is next to Medico along San Miguel Avenue.

If you're going to One San Miguel Avenue building which is situated at the corner of Shaw Boulevard and San Miguel Avenue, follow this: From the turnstile, walk towards the entrance of Shangri-La Plaza Mall. Before you get to the mall entrance there's stairs to the right of the walkway that leads to the ground where EDSA and Shaw Boulevard intersects. Take that stairs to get to the corner, go left on Shaw Boulevard, walk past Shangri-la Plaza, cross St. Francis Street until you get to San Miguel Avenue where this skyscraper stands. It's only 8 to 12-minute walk and the distance between EDSA and San Miguel Avenue is approximately 492 meters. Grand Victoria Hotel (維多麗亞酒店) at Neihu, Taipei - Taiwan

Grand Victoria Hotel (維多麗亞酒店) (N25.08412 E121.55863) is located at corner of Jing Ye 4th Road of Neihu, Taipei. We check in to the hotel once we reached Taipei from Taichung.

"The building is a fusion of classic Victorian architecture of the 19th century with contemporary elements of the 21st century."

I was attracted by the English-styled clock tower on the left of the building, it continue to change colour during night time...
We will stay here for 2 nights before we leave Taiwan. Too bad I don't have time to explore the hotel facility and others area.

Once we settle at the front desk, we got to put all our luggage in the room and our driver was waiting to bring us to Shilin Night Market for our dinner.

But Suddenly we noticed the washroom was decorated with Glass! Which you can see through the washroom! OH! Man! We going to have problem! I will feel Very uneasy when another guy looking at me while showering?! Haha!

After 10-20 minutes searching, we finally found there was a switch beside the table...once 'Press', there were 2 vinyl curtain sliding down...OH! That solve the problem...!

After solved the 'bathroom' problem, I took some photos outside the hotel area...I like the clock tower very much...

We were satisfied with the friendly staffs here, hotel is Clean and smoking is Not allow in the hotel area. I noticed this was the Only hotel where every staffs be able to speak English. That was Great! The breakfast served on morning also good enough. It was a pleasant stay for us.

Hotels Near PNR Naga Station

In my 3-day stay in Naga City, started off on the early morning of July 2 and concluded on the dusk of July 4, I've made sure that I accomplished something for my readers.

You guys are now informed of the pros and cons of riding PNR Bicol Express Train. They're all discussed in the posts I published while I was there in the "Heart of Bicol Region" that is Naga City. For our new guests, you can read the article which documented my travel to Naga from Manila by PNR Bicol Express Train in the post "To Naga On-Board PNR Bicol Express Train" and another one that guides commuters and tourists how to get to Cagsawa Ruins from Naga City in the post "How To Commute To Cagsawa Ruins From Naga City".

Today, I will guide you to locations of five hotels which are near to PNR Naga City Station. This is handy for first timers in visiting Naga City, and for those who, like me, decide to get to Naga City on a whim. In my case it went like this "Oh! It's PNR Bicol Express first trip to Naga this Wednesday , I got to be on-board on the maiden trip!". The way it turned out, it's the second trip to Naga that I would be in. Looked like misinformation saved me from the inconveniences that besieged those who boarded the first trip. I've had been coordinating with the Information Desk officers of PNR Tutuban, in fact, I had their contact number. I called them up the day before the soft opening. I was told that it won't push through and to call them the following week. Then I happened to read an article in Manila Bulletin in the morning of June 29, 2011, the soft launch date, that the opening indeed would push through. And so, I headed to PNR Tutuban in the afternoon of July 1, 2011.

The hotels nearest to PNR Naga Station are the following: Naga Regent Hotel, Crown Hotel, Aristocrat Hotel, Starview Hotel and the hotel where I was billeted - Naga Land Hotel.

These hotels are situated along Elias Angeles Street or E. Angeles street, one of the main road in Centro, Naga City. On the morning of my last day in Naga, I went to PNR Naga to buy ticket. I wanted to make sure I got in sleeper coach. On the way to PNR I took a tricycle, which, in my own view, the one that hold the title of the "king of the road" in Naga City. Watch for my separate post on how to move around Naga City. I went back to my hotel on foot.

Backpackers, all you need to do is walk but if you want a ride then take one of the tricycle that are available just outside PNR. If you're taking tricycle ride, just instruct the driver to take you to Naga Regent Hotel. Pay him 20 pesos once you get off the motored vehicle. From Regent Hotel which is located exactly where Elias Angeles Street begins, walk along the road to get to the other hotels. Read the rest of this post for more details.

On foot, take the only road going out of the PNR Naga Station. Turn right onto he main road which is called Biak na Bato. Immediately, you will pass through a bridge. Then, you will see the big public market called Naga City People's Mall to your left, and the road name changes to General Luna.

A huge monument is in front of the market. Next to the sculpture is a road to the right of General Luna. This road is Caceres. Take this road until you get to the next main street to the left of Caceres which is the Elias Angeles Street, This is where E. Angeles starts. You won't miss the big building which bears the very big sign that read "Naga Regent Hotel", located at the other corner of Caceres and E. Angeles.

Now, Naga Regent Hotel is an upscale hotel. It's not a budget hotel. But it's your landmark. Walk along E. Angeles towards its another end. You'll get to see another big building next to Naga Regent Hotel. This second building is where the main Naga Regent Hotel is located. It's bigger than the annex located at the corner of E. Angeles. Next to Naga Regent is Aristocrat Hotel, I will not recommend the hotel simply because it's exorbitant considering its age. Walk on until you get to the big plaza to your left. This plaza is called Rizal Plaza.

Towards the end of the plaza to the right is the Crown Hotel, which is nice. I like the kindness of the staff, very accomodating. I almost checked in there. Rate is 2,200 pesos. But I decided to check out other hotels.

Next hotel is StarView Hotel, to the left of E. Angeles Street. It's a tall building. It's new, rate is 1,999 pesos. There's a Jollibee, the one where I had my first breakfast in Naga City, at the ground floor of the building next to StarView along the street that intersects E. Angeles.

Naga Land Hotel, like StarView Hotel, is to the left of E. Angeles Street, opposite the big building of E Mall, a fully owned Bicolano mall with Robinson's Supermarket inside. But before you get to Naga Land Hotel, you will pass by different restaurants and fast food. Among them is Bigg's Diner, the biggest fast food chain in Bicol, having a lot of branches in key locations. There's also a McDonald's. All these restaurants and fastfood chains are to the left of E. Angeles Street between StarView Hotel and Naga Land Hotel. To the right of E. Angeles and opposite these establishments is a mini plaza or park where a monument of 15 martyr Bicolanos is erected.

Walk further past the small plaza until you get to the big building of E-Mall, to your right. Opposite the mall is the Naga Land Hotel. E-Mall is owned by Naga Land Hotel as written on its facade.

The factor that made me decide to check into Naga Land Hotel is their being considerate. Check-in time should be at 1 pm, but they allowed me to check in right at that moment. It's around 9:40 am when I got there. There's some waiting, about 30 minutes, but they did allowed me to get into my room. I was lucky because, the room just got vacated. And I was told that it needed to be clean up first. A man next to me was told that there's no more vacancy and that he needed to wait up.

The only setback of Naga Land Hotel is there's no wifi signal inside rooms. I needed to get down to the lobby to use their wifi. But the rate is reasonable. At 1,100 pesos with free breakfast, I give them a thumbs up. The room is great, I had 3 clean pillows, a thick blanket and complete set of utensils. Air-conditioning system is excellent, with hot and cold shower and a telephone. Breakfasst? I had Tapsilog twice because their tapa is so delicious. Except there's no free coffee.

There's a quite a lot of cheap hotels around the plaza that I've seen but never checked out. Rizal Plaza constitute the center of Naga City. You will not get lost as long as you're in the vicinity of the plaza.

A Luxury Hotel's Convenient Accessibility Amidst Undesirable Location

Hotel in old Manila, anyone?

Seems everyone has apprehension in spending a day or two in a hotel in old districts of Manila such as Sta Cruz. The stigma comes from the menace of street crimes that seem to always lurk there. A friend of mine had experienced losing his valuables to a bag-slasher. He just arrived from the north riding a Philippine Rabbit bus. When he got to Issetan where he'd to meet up with a relative, he was shocked to find out that his backpack was slashed and his valuable holder was gone. Apparently, the culprit got behind him and slashed his bag when he walked from Philippine Rabbit bus terminal in Rizal Avenue, taking Recto Avenue, on the way to the mall.

I don't want to cause any alarm, but I was also a victim of these ruthless criminals. It happened while I was on my way to LRT-1 Carriedo Station. You can read how I was victimized by these people in my article entitled How To Get To Quiapo Church By Walking And Commuting.

That's why the exact location of Manila Grand Opera Hotel, though apparently a paradox, gives utmost security for its guests against those dangerous elements lurking in the alleys and streets of the decadent district.

Manila Grand Opera Hotel, which is situated at the former site of the historical and famed Manila Grand Opera House, is the only elegant hotel with luxury of a 5-star hotel in downtown Manila that you can check in without stepping on the ground of the decaying surroundings.

The luxurious hotel with 3-star rate have another main entrance directly open to the second level of LRT-1 Doroteo Station from which the LRT-2 walkway or footbridge is also connected.

That means, even if you're coming from Marikina in the east, Roosevelt in the north, NAIA-3 in the south or SM Mall of Asia in the west, you can go and check-in this elegant hotel by commuting through the trains of LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 lines.

How to get to Manila Grand Opera Hotel by trains

LRT-1 Southbound - Get off the train at Doroteo Jose Station, and from the turnstile, walk towards the entrance of Manila Grand Opera Hotel.

LRT-1 Northbound - Get off the train at Doroteo Jose Station, use elevator, escalator or stairs to get to the other side of the station and enter Manila Grand Opera Hotel through its door at the second level of LRT-2 Doroteo Jose Station.

LRT-2 - Get off the train at Recto Station, use the footbridge and walk your way to Doroteo Jose Station, use the elevator or escalator to get to the other side and enter the hotel in the second level of LRT-2 Doroteo Jose Station.

MRT-3 Southbound - Get off the train at either Araneta Center Cubao Station or Tat Station. From Araneta Cubao Station, walk to LRT-2 Araneta Center Cubao Station, ride a Recto bound train, alight at Recto and walk to LRT-1 Doroteo Jose Station. From Taft Station, use the footbridge and go to LRT-1 EDSA Station, ride a Monumento/Roosevelt bound train, alight at Doroteo Jose Station, go to the other side of the station and enter Manila Grand Opera Hotel entrance at the second level of the station.

MRT-3 Northbound - Get off the train at Araneta Center Cubao Station and walk to LRT-2 Araneta Center Cubao Station, ride a Recto bound train, alight at Recto and walk to LRT-1 Doroteo Jose Station. Go to the other side of Doroteo Station through elevator or escalators and enter Manila Grand Opera Hotel through its entrance at the second level of the LRT-1 Station.

You wouldn't get to Manila Grand Opera Hotel by bus and public jeep if you're carrying jewelries and cash, would you? Taking taxi is not practical because of the heavy traffic in the area. And driving your car to the hotel's parking space presents inconvenience and hassle issue. With the existence of PAGCOR Casino in the hotel, one would be tempted to bring some extra cash. Clearly, train is the safest and fastest way to get to Manila Grand Opera Hotel from any locations in Metro and Mega Manila and vice versa. The sense of security is definitely there. In fact, you can vicariously feel that you're in an Ortigas Center hotel or an Ayala Center hotel once you're inside Manila Grand Opera Hotel. Well, you can close your eyes while on the transit, go directly through the door of Manila Grand and discard in your mind that you're actually in Avenida-Recto-Sta Cruz area. That way, you would feel the same ambiance of Makati or Ortigas or even MOA, NAIA and Resort World while you're in Manila Grand Opera Hotel.

Simply put, omit the timeline between your point of origin and the moment you're standing in front of the concierge of Manila Grand Opera Hotel. Try it, it feels great, and it's fun.

Miracolo View Hotel (米洛克飯店) at Sun Moon Lake (日月潭), Taiwan.

Miracolo View Hotel (米洛克) (N23.87221 E120.92073) is located along ZhongZheng Road of Yuchih Township, Sun Moon Lake. The elevation is 760 meter (recorded from the Garmin Etrex Vista GPS Device). The air was cooling over here!

It took about 30 minutes drive from CheCheng town, a bit disappointed because was cloudy when we arrived...so we can't see the beauty of the Sun Moon Lake in that evening...

Evergreen Laurel Hotel (長榮桂冠酒店) at Taichung, Taiwan

The Evergreen Laurel Hotel (長榮桂冠酒店) (N24.15930 E120.65698) is located along Section 2 - Tai Zhong Gang Road, Situn District of Taichung, Taiwan.

We had been arrange to this hotel for a night before Sun Moon Lake by the Travel Agent. Once the driver (Mr Yew) picked us at the airport, he drove us all the way from Taoyuan International Airport to Evergreen Laurel Hotel. The journey took about 2 hours...

We reached the hotel around 10.30pm. And all of us were starved! So we did the check in as fast as we can and had our dinner at Fong Chia Night Market that I'm going to blog about it in my next post.

I'm not really explore around the hotel because of the limited time. But the hotel gave us a Very Clean & Neat impression! And also the Polite and Friendly staffs! I like it!

Before we leave, I notice this Cute 'Lucky Tiger' statue beside the main entrance of the hotel.
